Can you ask to have a D&C done???

I'm kinda confused I had 2 miscarriages back to back but my Dr never said anything about doing a D&C either time. Can I ask for 1???

I just thought that maybe having 1 done would give us a better chance of having a successful pregnancy

I wouldn't ask for one unless you need one. It's a surgery and like any surgery has chances of complications.  My sister had a D&C in January (she was 7 weeks). A week or so later she had a fever and was not feeling well. I insisted on taking her to the hospital and she was admitted for 3 nights and hooked up to antibiotic iv.  It's very rare but she got an infection from the D&C.

A doctor will generally only recommend a D&C if you need it. If you have a natural miscarriage, you usually do not need intervention, but some women do not successfully pass all of the tissues so they will perform a D&C to remove any leftover tissue to prevent infection or complication. Another reason to offer or suggest one is if you find out your pregnancy is not viable, but your body has not started to miscarry, like with a blighted ovum. With my first miscarriage, I was informed that my pregnancy was not viable and that my body should naturally miscarry within a week or two. My doctor offered to schedule a D&C, but I opted to let nature run it's course (which took 8 more days).
