Circumcision not covered by insurance?

Does your insurance company cover circumcision? It's technically a cosmetic procedure, unless medically necessary. How much will you pay to snip your newborn?

Ours was covered and most insurances do cover it based on the person I called at our hospital. I'll be doing it if it is covered or not. I know two adult males who were forced to get circumcised as adults for medical reasons (two different reasons--one infection and one foreskin cancer). It is incredible painful to get done as an adult because the nerve endings have developed. Those nerve endings are miniscule in babies. There are also very small medical benefits (slightly less risk of UTIs). To me, it is not "purely cosmetic" as some people state on this app, and they must be researching on Dr. Google.

I watched them do it to my first son, and he slept through it. I'll be doing it for my second son. My father and brother are both physicians and they said they'd recommend it based on their medical experience. I know some cultures don't do circumcision, but it is inaccurate to say that it's purely cosmetic. For those of you who will argue this, please open a pediatric medical journal before you argue and don't cite mommy bloggers as your proof. Empirical evidence shows a very slight medical benefit, and to me, it is worth it. I fully understand and respect that this decision is not for everyone, but it's irritating when people present false information.

I find this interesting.... In the UK it's just not done at all... It's actually quite rare to find someone circumcised (unless for religious or medical reasons). I fully support you in your choices for you family... I just find it interesting that in America it's the 'norm' :-)

Insurance companies aren't covering it anymore because people are becoming more educated and realizing it is actually NOT medically necessary....

I'm opting not to, personally. Just don't feel like it's my decision to make. His father left, but we did talk about it previously. He wasn't circumcised and didn't want it for our son. But to each their own! Do what's right for your own child.

I'm having a girl, so it doesn't matter, but we were told if it happens early insurance covered it, but if we waited they wouldnt. My BIL has state medicaid on his boys and medicaid wouldn't pay for it. They had to either pay $200 for the procedure within the first week or pay $2000 if the procedure was after the first week. Because of that, none of his boys were circumcised, and they are the reason why when I have a boy I will circumcise. The various experiences were enough to convince me; whereas before, I was reserving judgement.

You could call your insurance Co to find out what is or is not included.

It's included in the newborn coverage at birth. So yes, our insurance covers it!

Yes mine does, I made sure when picking out insurance once I found out I was pregnant to choose the provider that covered it! I just knew I was having a boy.. 💜💜

My oldest sons was covered by insurance (that was 9 years ago) - I'll have to check if our insurance would cover for this little one. Good question though! Didn't even think of it but makes sense with coverage always changing

Our sons was done in the hospital, and fully covered by our insurance. I think it just depends on your plan..
