New Boyfriend

We've known each other for a few years now, but recently realized there was a mutual attraction between us. He's really amazing and it's been a long time since I've felt this happy but there's one problem: his mother. She's psycho. She's overbearing and controlling and I'm not sure how much she likes me. We're still in high school so his mother is always around and decides a lot of things for him. I would love for this to work out but is the experience of his mom worth it? I'd appreciate advice or similar experiences. Thanks!
