Thanksgiving...what do you do?

Here in UK we don't do thanksgiving but it sounds super fun from how its spoke about. 
What you actually do for it? And why do you celebrate it? Is it a religious day?

I'm in the UK and my husband is American. Thanksgiving is a holiday that commemorates a harvest festival celebration by the pilgrim fathers in 1621. It's held on the fourth Thursday of the month November. For tanks giving, friends and families gather together, bring food to share to everyone and the person who host the feast is suppose to cook a whole large Turkey for everyone to share.

You eat and eat and eat!!! My husband and I are both of italian heritage and dinner is a 5 course affair that takes hours to finish!! We sit around the table with family and laugh and share stories, then for dessert we go to the other side of the family's house to eat more!! Then around midnight or so, my mom and I go shopping for "Black Friday" deals. It's the official kick off to the Christmas season, which I live for so its just such a fun and special time!

Typically, I watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I have since I was a little girl and now my sisters and I group text during it to try to keep the same feeling we had watching it as kids. Then after the parade (it is on tv and is full of Broadway performances and floats), my husband and I go and have a meal  with one of our families. It usually involves food that we only eat at Thanksgivinng such as green bean casserole. Then after that digests a little we eat our full of pies. Yum!

For our family, I made a little tradition, eithe I cook and host for the holiday and friends come and bring other food or the other way around. Before we eat, we have a written letter that stated what we are thankful for from the year and we read it before we eat, be thankful and thank the Lord. :)

For me I go down to my grandmas and we prepare food before the big feast we have. And we watch the Macy's parade as well. I just go for the food Lol.

Families get together and eat and spend time together and it's represented to be thankful for everything you have in life. I'm a nurse, my husband is a cop, so we don't get the luxury of taking off every holiday.

Thanksgiving isn't religious.  When the pilgrims came to America,  the native Americans (Indians) were here. And on thanksgiving the Indians offered the pilgrims food and had like a big dinner. Easiest way I can explain it. So on thanksgiving now, families make pies, and potatoes and a turkey (sometimes families make different stuff) but traditionally it's turkey and potatoes. Vegetables. And you have your family over. And we just all say what we are thankful for
