At what age should children start bathing themselves?

My dad bathed me until I was at least 7 I believe. Just polling for comparison!

When the child is able to  clean themself properly; make sure to wash hair and private areas etc.

My son is 7, he has been capable of bathing by himself since he was 6, but still needs reminders of when to bathe and what to do. In my old house (since he was 4) we had a double shower, so it was easy for us both to jump in and he could be supervised/helped as needed. Nowadays I help him adjust the water temp, remind him of what he's gotta do, and mostly leave him to it. He forgets to wash his hair half the time lol.
