It was rough but we did it!
We went in Friday night, 6/17, for an induction because of my preeclampsia. The plan was to do cervidil overnight and start pitocin in the morning. I was 36 weeks, 3 days.
By morning, I was only dilated to 1.5 and 50 percent effaced. We started the pitocin just before noon.
We kept increasing the dose but the contractions weren't very strong. By 9pm we were at the maximum dosage of the pitocin and we kept it at that level for 2 hours, hoping for some progress. We'd broken my waters before we started the pitocin, but even with all of that I was only at 3cm.
By midnight today (6/19) it was pretty clear nothing was going to happen. It had to be the c-section. I was TERRIFIED.
They got me my spinal and my blood pressure dropped and I started to vomit. They stabilized me and got me into the OR. Baby came out strong and healthy. Our surprise baby was a boy! But as they started to sew me back up my blood pressure and heart rate dropped again, badly. And I started to vomit again, but my head was below my chest so I was choking. It was awful. My husband thought they were going to lose me.
But they got me back and got us into recovery. C-section recovery is not a joke, it's painful and unpleasant, but the baby is perfect. Breathing without issue, good at eating, blood sugar perfect, and good looking too, although we're having trouble getting a picture of him without his hands in his face.
Gareth, born at 36 weeks, 5 days. 6 pounds, 10 ounces. 20 inches long.
