Is it okay for married men/women to have friends of the opposite sex?

Do you find it appropriate for married men/women to have friends of the opposite sex? If you are JUST friends. Have friendly conversations nothing more than that. Have no feelings or needs beyond friendship. Say you were friends before your SO came into the picture. What about if this friend lived long distance? Is it unreasonable to message as long as your SO can read it anytime? What are your views?

It's absolutely fine and I don't think there even needs to be the disclaimer that they can read messages at any time. I think it's incredibly controlling to restrict who your husband/wife can be friends with. Shows a complete lack of trust and is not a healthy relationship

Yes it's ok. But no, my husband may not read my messages at any time because they are  MY messages. And he'd never ask to read them, either. That's part of having a healthy relationship. He isn't suspicious or jealous and I don't need to justify or prove anything.

Why wouldn't it be appropriate? My best friend is a guy and I'm engaged to someone else. I'm not going to end the friendship just because of his gender. That's stupid

I had a make best friend (with benefits,  to be completely forthcoming years before I met my now husband.  While I was dating my now husband, the guy and I remained slightly more distant friends  (no more benefits). I still talk to him occasionally, but I don't share my feelings with him like I used to. To me,  that bond needs to be with my husband,  not another man. I don't go out with him either. My husband feels the same way. He has female acquaintances, but he no longer has close female friends that he goes out with alone. That's just how we roll. I say, do what's comfortable for you and your relationship.

In that instance it is. I have a friend who lives in Florida who I consider one of my best friends after my husband of course. We don't talk all the time but at least every other week well text but we do send each other memes when we see something that's funny for the other person. But he doesn't like me any other way than just a friend and same for me. But any other guys I don't really talk to because I know they would have some sort of agenda and my husband doesn't talk to any girls. O and he knows m and that guy will text each other which is usually so funny I'll show him the messages because we are a riot lol

I have been best friends with a guy since I was 12 and we message all the time. My fiance isn't worried about it one bit even though we used to be more than just friends
