Gather round ladies, I have a story to tell. I have told this story many a time to our friend Glow; however, this will be my last time to tell it, for the time has come for me to move on but not without one last ode to my long lost diva.

It all started one morning when my college roommate and I were discussing our newfound obsession with "natural living". Together we glided effortlessly through the epiphany stage where every single thing you learn about this massive concept we call "natural living" absolutely blows your mind.

Amidst deep controversies like bok choy vs kale, and homemade shampoo made with Castile soap vs baking soda, I tentatively asked, "What do you know about menstrual cups?" Before we dove into this natural craze, I had been repulsed by the idea of allowing a silicone cup to collect my menstrual blood for me to pour out, but now high on nature, I found myself much more at ease with the idea.

She responsed with a vague description of what she knew about the products, and told me about some weird girl in high school she knew that used one (which is exactly how I would have answered had she been the one to ask the question).

We sat in silence for a moment as we both processed the concept and without a word, we both knew what we had to do.

We, the newfound nature nerds HAD to own menstrual cups. So immediately we began to research. After several minutes of research and a severe lack of impulse control, we had found a grocery store still open that night that carried "Diva Cups" and we had to have them.

We returned that evening with our prizes- two pink and purple boxes containing identical, size 1 Diva Cups and matching little drawstring bags to carry them.

They were perfect. And despite the fact that neither of us was even close to starting our periods that month- we were giddy.

I won't go into detail about the blood, sweat and tears (literally) that went into perfecting the art of inserting our diva cups, but I will tell you it was worth it. 2 months later we were pros; our cramps were gone, our PMS symptoms (mostly) disappeared and we grew a fierce love for our divas.

Eventually my roommate and I parted ways, she to a nursing school in Kansas, and I to a missionary training school in Florida. We may have parted, but our diva cups remained strong.

Unfortunately, while using a pit latrine (read: deep hole in ground for human waste), my diva cup met her untimely demise. I recruited another fellow diva cup wearer nearby to aid in a rescue but alas, she was gone and my heart was nearly broken.

It is now on this day, that I have finally worked up the courage to re-establish myself in the diva community and purchase my second diva cup.

May my first cup rest in peace, and may you, members of glow, find friendship and comfort in your menstrual cups.
