Anti-inflammatories can lighten your period as menstruation is an inflammation response in your body.

I don't believe it can "delay" your period though.

It was reccomended to me by my doctor that taken nurofen or something similar could stop excess and prolonged bleeding as a result of my BC.

Pain medication doesn't slow your period. If anything, most pain meds are made with an ingredient that is a blood thinner which can induce your period.
