Oral sex - the "deepthroating" ability. Are you able?

I'm just wondering if this is something that is commonly done. I was able to fully do it without much trouble the first time I tried (I've never really had a gag reflex, for example, I can't make myself throw up) but the guy acted like it was an anomaly or something.
