Can you get a positive pregnancy test after the five minute window is up?

I took a pregnancy test yesterday afternoon. It appeared as though it was negative. The next morning I looked at the test and it said positive. I have been reading that they are not valid after 10 minutes. Has this happend to anyone else? I am currently 9 days late. Thanks!
