Advice Please: Go to the Doctor or Not?
So, I am in need of advice, glow community.
Problem:
Every time I get my period, the first two days are excruciatingly painful. Cramping only once in a while, but bloating so bad it makes my 156 pounds feel like 500; swelling so bad it feels like my kidneys are trying to tear themselves out of my back; every joint in my body feels enflamed. The painful joints and the swelling makes it impossible to stand up straight. The first two days of my period I usually end up taking 3 ibuprofen and 2 midol, together, in the morning just to dull the pain long enough to get through the day. (Some heavier periods are so painful I need to take that dosage twice.) The rest of the period I'm fine.
Medication Complications:
There was a time when I was on the birth control pill and that helped, but then I was diagnosed with ADHD and found that the higher dosage level of the generic adderall that works well for me cancelles out the pill. The Planned Parenthood Nurse Practitioner and I basically figured out that as long as I'm taking my ADHD medication, a hormonal birth control pill will not work for me. She suggested trying a IUD, but when I told her I have a 1st cousin who was made infertile when her's went through the uterine liner, she said it would be best to not even attempt it. So that puts me back at the 3:2 regiment of ibuprofen and midol to get by each month. I know it's not healthy to basically OD on muscle relaxers, but it works.
Question:
Since the research and the buzz about endometriosis (and the infertility it can cause😥 and not having any children yet, myself) has started to gain publicity, I've been seriously considering going to a real Gyno, not just a nurse practitioner at Planned Parenthood. My mom kind of just brushed off my concerns because I have a very low pain tolerance and have I've always been a bit of a drama queen with pain because of that. So, my question to you all out there is: what do you think? Should I go see a doctor?
