Is sushi okay during pregnancy? Like California roll etc?

California roll doesn't have any raw fish in it so it would definitely be ok. I've heard no sushi during pregnancy, but I'm deciding not to abide by that rule. Whoever said that even women in Japan get pregnant—amen! I think the US has too many restrictions on pregnant women. Just be healthy!

You can have anything that isn't raw and stay away from things with high mercury content. I had a shrimp tempura/eel roll yesterday and it was heaven in my mouth!! I asked for no fish eggs on it and for it to be prepared on a clean cutting board. Eat at reputable places only I'd say...

That's funny that I bumped into this question. I just had my ob intake appointment today, and the nurse told me that because I live in Japan (on base) that we are allowed to eat the fish and sushi here. They get it fresh every morning. Luckily I don't live in the u.s for this pregnancy lol. 
I guess it all just matters where the restaurant gets their fish from, and when they got it? If it's fresh then sure why not?

I EATZ IT ALL!!!! lol I love sushi. I've been trying to only go 2x a week and avoid bigger shellfish.. I still eat all the shrimps but only 1 roll with tuna (which is high Mercury)... I love salmon which is good for baby. Most dr are concerned about badly prepared sushi. I have places that I trust and haven't gotten sick from but I'm not going to stop. My baby was dancing like crazy last week on its ultrasound.  24 hours after I had sushi. I'm not worried about it.

I think so. I stayed away with my 2nd pregnancy but now I realize I can eat all my favorites because it's all cooked!

Based on what i heard California roll is the fake American version of sushi where the fish is cooked all the way through.. so there must be no harm in that and you can ask the chef to make sure

Actually a lot my Japanese girl friends told me sushi is supposed to be the healthy pregrant food in Japan, they are supposed to eat throughout the 9 months, but all the doctors outside are against maybe we don't have a good conduct how we deal with fish ( restaurant or other places) just be very careful, If you vomit or anything see a doctor asap, you can tell if the fish is fresh or not most of the time, only eat those super fresh

TOTALLY FINE! Just stay away from high Mercury fish like tuna. You can still eat tuna just maybe once every couple of weeks.

You can eat ALL shell fish so crab and lobster and things like clams and shrimp are good. Salmon and tilapia are the two that you can eat all the time. You can eat Eel aswell which is great!!

You can eat raw sashimi aswell but don't eat it anywhere. Make sure you trust the place you are getting it from. Most Japanese restaurants buy the fish frozen because they import from Japan and other places(totally normal!)  so any bacteria tends to be gone.

Seaweed should be green or dark not red. And you can always substitute it for soy paper.

Japanese women eat sushi and sashimi all the time during their pregnancy.

Sushi???
