I just started my period! Can you give me some advice?

I'm 14 and had my first period last month.
Does anyone have advice for me?
My Mum died when I was 7 so I don't have anyone to talk to about this kind of thing.

When your on your period you can get cramps
You have to change your pad or tampon when it feels full
Make sure you don't,wear white on you period try to avoid wearing it
Don't go swimming without a tampon

I'm sorry for your loss, congratulations on entering a new phase of your life. I recommend finding a method you prefer to deal with the blood, there are many different options like pads, tampons, thinx underwear and a menstrual cup. For cramps I prefer a general pain reliever (I like excedrine) opposed to midol, it's cheaper and I think it's more effective. If you have really bad cramps heat like a hot shower or heating pad work great, or a topical pain reliever like bengay or aspercream (odorless) does wonders

If you're comfortable going to buy pads or tampons start a period box with paracetamol all your pads or tampons, chocolate and things that make you feel good. Always carry a small purse with extra supplies in for school or out and about and you'll be good :) xx

periods are complicated at first, they come as and when they please and hurt like hell. They can be short, long, light and heavy! Try a range of products until you find one you like, pads, tampons, a certain brand etc. 
Always carry pads around with you for emergencies as you could be anywhere when you come on. Maybe have some pain killers with you too. After a while you should start becoming more regular and identitying symptoms that link with coming on :-)
