How important is the TDAP vaccine? My obgyn hasn't mentioned it.

I just did mine 😳my arm hurts so much!! I tried to avoid it as long as possible my doctor was not thrilled with me

I'd say pretty important. My dr even recommended that my mom and childs father get it since they will be around the baby. Babies don't get their vaccines until around 2 months so this is they only kind of vaccine they will get until then since you will pass the antibodies to them

I just left my appointment (30 weeks) and she seems very adamant about it she said whooping cough is making a come back...I mean I plan to get it..better safe than sorry

I had mine Friday and today is the first day my arm isn't sore. Hubby will get his soon

It depends but I'd err on the side of getting it. Pertussis isn't that common (at the same time, it's not exactly UNcommon) so it's anyone's guess how big a risk any individual baby has of getting it. But when babies do get it, it can be rapidly deadly. Getting the shot means passing antibodies over to baby in addition to protecting yourself from infection so baby is better protected on the off chance that s/he has a higher potential for exposure. I think of it more as a prevention or insurance type thing -- you hope you don't need it but you're thankful that you have it if anything unusual happens. I got the vaccine and would definitely recommend to others as well, just because the risk of death from infection is so real in newborns.

It varys honestly. I had to have it again because my daughter was born at 29 weeks so to be able to visit her in the NICU i had to have it
