Epidural?

Question

Everyone keeps suggesting I get the epidural but I planned a natural birth. What do you think? It's my first baby, I don't want to be in and out of sleep while in labor. I also do not want my baby getting affected by the medications. I have looked into every type of med and it affects the placenta.

I had my mind set on having a natural birth but after 8 hours I couldn't take the pain anymore and ended up getting an epidural and I'm so glad I did. It actually made it so I could enjoy the process and really concentrate on what was going on instead of focusing on all the pain. I say go into it all natural and if the pain is too much then get the epi. :)

I think you have to take into consideration what reasons people are telling you to get an epidural and what reasons you have to not want one. I personally will not be having one unless labor has been so long (24+ hours of active labor, not shift change) that my body is too exhausted to effectively labor anymore. There are plenty of reasons to get one or not get one. If you are set on natural, í would suggest reading Ina Mays book. Lots of great info and encouraging birth stories.

I wanted a natural birth but my contractions were full blown from the start and I had a 38 hour labor so I was extremely exhausted and ended up getting the epidural. It was amazing for me. I had no side effects from it,I wasn't in and out of sleep,i could feel when I needed to push,I didn't feel drugged up and my baby was perfectly fine and wasn't affected at all. I was up within an hour after giving birth and I'm SO glad I chose to get one. Everyone's experience is different,but i had a great one.

I'm not getting one. Im going as natural as possible. Epidural are the social norm. I've actually been told that basically we women are too weak to go all natural and that we NEED epidurals. 🙄 can you tell she got an epidural? So did her daughters.

I wanted a natural birth. I was terrified of the epidural. I was scheduled for inducement January 25th they put the cervidil in at 7pm it didn't do much at all started petocin at 7am 26th they broke my water at around 3pm I got a dose of dilaudid around 4pm asked for another around 6 then after that wore off they said I couldn't have anymore till 830 and that was at 730 and I said oh hell no she's coming before then and the nurse said I doubt it honey and at 803 after 4 pushes my daughter was born. I would definitely recommend the dilaudid it calmed me down and took the edge off. One side effect I experienced was that Everytime I switched positions I puked but you are only allowed ice chips so it was just water and stomach acid. There was no way anyone would have gotten close to my spine with a needle a girl I know had a horrible time with the epidural they had to try and administrator it several times it had adverse effects on her she hated it

I wanted natural but I had to be induced which made labor much worse. Ended up with epi because my blood pressure was too high and was bad for baby....

You'll know the best decision for you when your in labor. Most hospitals don't even have a cut off time for it anymore unless the babies crowning😂

I plan to have a natural birth also and I'm a FTM. Of course... People have all these horror stories about how unbearable the pain is and they swear I'm going to want an epidural. I'm not against the epi. I'll go natural and if the pain is too much for me, I will get it. I just don't want to go into labor with all these stories in my head making things worse than what they really are.
