He's annoyed when I cry?

I'm overly sensitive sometimes when it comes to the things my boyfriend says (I'm 20 he's 21), and I cry more than I should. And lately when I cry he just looks annoyed and sighs before asking me what's wrong... I know I should toughen up. But should I be concerned too?

It can be overwhelming and exhausting to be with an emotional person if you aren't that way too. I dated a guy that cried about everything. Like.. listening to the grateful dead would start crying because Jerry died and he was such a great person..

Not to say you don't have the right to feel things but it sounds like you feel a lot and your guy is drained by it. Find a way to work around it or find someone a little more sensitive is all I can suggest.

I think you need to sit down and let him know that the crying is something you can't help, and that you'd like for conversations to continue as if you're not crying. Be clear with him that the crying isn't for sympathy or to get your way; you literally just can't help it. I'm the same way. The waterworks have a mind of their own for me and I cry about the dumbest shit. My SO and I learned to continue as if nothing is happening. Sensitivity is nothing to be ashamed of, and you're not alone :)

That was always a red flag for me to leave a relationship. If he can't handle me when I feel vulnerable, then he doesn't deserve me when I'm strong. I have zero patience for people who lack empathy.

Yes you should not to be rude dudes don't like whining or crying all the time it gets old to them and they will later either cheat or dump you

I'm like that, too. 😩 It's not even necessarily that he's being mean to me.. Just sometimes I have this knee-jerk reaction to cry when we are talking about "serious" stuff. I hate that I cry, but it just happens and I can't help it. It is hard for him to understand. I think in the past, his experience has been that people cry as a manipulation tactic or to stop the conversation, which is not what I want at all. Have you guys been together that long? I have noticed that the longer we're together, the more he understands me and the better he takes it. I also think I have begun to get a little more used to talking about serious things, so I have toughened up a bit and it doesn't happen as often. Probably once every couple months, sometimes less.
