How do people get their babies to sleep in their own bed?

Question

Second night home and I am sleeping in the recliner again with my baby on my chest because she cries every time I lay her down, and my stomach is so sore from c-section, I can't keep getting up and down from my bed. I have tried putting her in her bassinet and in her swing, and I have tried letting her cry for a bit, but she won't just go to sleep. How do you get your babies to sleep in their own bed?

Maybe this info graphic will help- your baby just spent 9 mos in the womb. It's said to be too early to sleep train or let baby cry it out.  It will come. I'm sorry you're so tired, i remember feeling so sapped and overwhelmed when I became a mommy. My daughter wanted to be snuggled by me as well. Remember all babies are different- some are more mellow than others so one mom may say swaddle and she ll sleep alone. That may work for some but other babies won't take any substitute for mommy. Remind yourself of the sweetness of it and enjoy the closeness while it lasts. Your bond will last forever but when baby is older she won't need you this way. At least that's what I told myself to enjoy the moments that were trying yet sweet.

Not exactly sure lol but our first 3 nights home my baby just wanted to be with me too....it got better and better each night though....now she's two weeks and for the past two nights she's slept 5 hours straight by herself...and then I feed her and. She goes back down within the hour and will sleep another two alone before wanting to feed again.  I think it gets better and better with each passing day! So hang in there!

I breastfeed mine to sleep, swaddle with arms tight inside, then out him in a cosleeper. I had a c section, too, but he cosleeper height allows me to pick him up on my own. It's important to swaddle the arms tight and with hands away from the face because they flail their arms in their sleep and wake themselves up. They don't understand whose arms they are yet. I also have a baby k'tan (wrap) hat he sleeps in during the day. It keeps him tight against my chest and my heartbeat and breathing relax him. I can sleep sitting in a recliner with him in there during the day when my MIL is around to make sure he doesn't turn his face.

I use white noise and a halo swaddle. I found that my guy hated his arms swaddled so the halo swaddle lets me keep them out. (He likes to sleep with them up by his ears). I usually rock him to sleep after breastfeeding then carefully put him down (he's sleeping in the top of a pack and play). Dim lights, white noise, etc. doesn't work all the time but he's doing pretty good for 2 weeks old.

Definitely swaddle. Also agree with white noise and suggest bed sharing for the first two weeks. It allows you time to heal and lets baby adjust to being on the outside. Also try a Baby K'Tan wrap - my little guy lives it and goes to sleep quickly in it.

I heard using a swaddle blanket and some white noise. I believe they have some apps you can download. The baby probably hears your heartbeat when she's on your chest so it soothes her to sleep.

Honestly I've been sleeping propped up with pillows with my son on my chest the past few nights.  Hes 4 days old. In know eventually he'll sleep on his own but he's not ready yet and it's more important that I get some sleep to recover.
