Sharon • FTM. 26. Due June 23, 2016. Missing mimosas and rare steaks but enjoying the excuse to rock stretchy pants at all time.
I had my routine appointment Monday morning at 10 am, following a stressful night and 4 am wake up where I was just beside myself that something was wrong (there wasn't- I'm just THAT typical first time mom. God help my child.) I was due June 23, and had previously been 50 percent effaced and a whopping 1 centimeter dilated.
So my blood pressure was high at my appointment and as I tearfully told my doctor my anxiety over fetal movement (or lack there of) she put the baby on the ultrasound machine, showed me her beating heart, but noted that the baby was indeed not really moving.
"Let's have you go to the hospital, I'm going to monitor you for a few hours, but it may just be time to have this baby."
After being monitored (it was SO relaxing to just hear that little heart beat for hours) my doctor popped in after a delivery at the hospital and said baby looked fine, but let's just go ahead and schedule an induction for midnight. They kept monitoring me from 2 pm till midnight.
What's so strange is, while at the hospital without any induction, I started to have regular contractions. At  2 am they found I had dilated to a 2, started pitocin, and at 9 am they gave me my epidural and broke my water at 10:30.
Gone was my anxiety, as I thought I had plenty of time to gear up for labor and delivery. I relaxed, feeling no pain, watched Mad Men with my husband and visited with my parents. At noon I was at 5 cm. Forty five minutes later, with my husband in the cafeteria grabbing a bite, they checked me again and found I was suddenly 9 centimeters.
Apparently I was so relaxed my body was all, "Okay let's do this!"
I started pushing at 1:30 with my labor nurse and husband. The most difficult aspect was bearing down and feeling as though all the blood vessels in my face were going to burst. I did not feel any pain though in my nether regions. Just like I was pushing super hard to use the restroom.
One hour later my doctor came in, looked in at my progress and said, "I can see her crowning. She's almost here. A few more big pushes!" I gave two more and then looked at my practically silent husband holding my left and he made some sort of joke about the music I had playing on my birthing playlist and it made me laugh.
"If you laugh like that again she'll be out!" said my doctor.
Which naturally was so ridiculous I laughed again.
And she was out.

Sorry for the novel. It's mostly for me to remember everything.
