2 Day Hospital Stay?

Question

Doc informed me that all first time moms have to stay minimum 48 hours after the baby is born just for monitoring. Common? Anyone else in the same boat? What did you or do you plan on bringing for you and baby while you're there? TIA!

My insurance requires a 48 hour stay for vaginal and 5 days for c-section no matter if you've had kids before or not.

It was 2 days (after delivery, not at start of labor or pushing) for vaginal and 4-5 days with c section with out first, and even now with a different insurance its the same. Which in all honesty, worked out well for us because we were taken care of while we were there, the house wasnt being destroyed because we were all out of it, and i didnt find out until like the 2nd day that I might need a blood transfusion because I was passing so many clots. I didnt know thats what clots looked like, i thought they were normal, so i wouldve never known and it couldve been bad. It really helped with me breastfeeding too having a lactation consultant whenever i needed.. i would probably stay two days again even if they said i didnt have too :)

I was there 3 days with a C section. 2 days is very common. I packed a bunch of stuff but between playing with baby never used. We never even turned tv on....

Yes, mine was 2 days after the baby was born and actually 4 days total (2 days of induction and labor). It is typical in the US.

I brought a few pairs of comfy pj's and an outfit for me and baby to go home in. I actually brought two going home outdits for baby,'one preemie and one nb because she was early, but I'd recommend one nb and one 0-3 months just in case. Also, make sure you bring maternity clothes for you. Something comfortable. The pj's I brought for me were maternity and nursing tanks and nice and cozy but still cute enough to be seen in!

I also brought toiletries for me and for my husband since he stayed with us the entire time.

The hospital provided diapers and everything we needed for baby and for my lady parts. Call and check to make sure they have stuff for you though!

All hospitals are different. 
I work on labor and delivery as a CNA, our standard hospital stay for vaginal delivery is 48 hours. 
For c-section patients 3-4 days. 
We also check the bilirubin on all babies which can also extend your hospital stay for either delivery.

Hell no I welcome this stay I'm going to make sure I'm breastfeeding right I'm going to need some sleep yeah I'm in no rush to go home .... if it was my second or third baby then yeah I would go home as early as I could but this being the first I'm going to take my time

I stayed less than that.  It's required they allow you to stay that long (meaning they cannot ask you to leave) but you may be able to request to be discharged early if both your ob and pediatrician allow it.

I think it varies by hospital/doctor/insurance. I more commonly hear 24 hours. I'm delivering at a birthing center and I think I can go home 6 hours after the birth, barring any complications.

Where im laboring at they say you need to be there of a minimum of 3 days... Its a dread to think any day now im gonna have to be there for that long...
