Does anyone know if smoking cigarettes can cause a baby's heart to stop beating in the womb?

I have cut back DRASTICALLY. To like, 2 cigs max per day. But instead of stressing myself and my baby out, my doctor advised me to slowly stop. I go in for another sonogram next Friday which we then will also see the heartbeat but part of me is so scared there won't be one because I haven't stopped cold turkey. I'm currently 7 weeks. Please be kind, I know it's wrong. And I plan on being completely done with them by the time for my appointment.... 😔

Yes it is possible. Because smoking reduces the oxygen available to the fetus. Cutting back is excellent and just do your best to wean as quickly as you safely can!

You're doing a good thing trying to quit and I know it must be hard. I doubt that it will cause your baby's heart to stop, but I don't know how soon or how severely it can damage your baby at this point.  My aunt smoked through her pregnancy because the nurse said it would hurt the pregnancy if she quit cold turkey and unsurprisingly her sons did have breathing problems and asthma.

Not judging just passing info on my sister smoked during whole pregnancy her some was born 2months early at 3lbs and had to be in incubator because he wasn't fully developed had to be in hospital for about a month...he will now be 2 in September and he is doing great only problem is bad asthma and always sick has really bad breathing problems..but it might be cause she is still smoking around him. I would try your hardest to cut back if you can. Good luck!
