Question on ovulating

I just started taking my temp with the digital thermometer. It started at 97.77 them gradually has gone down. Today it says 97.05. Calendar says I am to ovulate starting Tuesday until say with Wednesday being my most predicted day. I also started testing on the strips and they have been negative. What the heck is happening that my temp is dropping but neg pee sticks? Does the temp drop just mean it's close?
