Do you consider a birth-mom/ natural mom/first mom to be a "mother"?

Speaking of adoption here. 
Curious & would like to hear other views of what in your opinion makes someone worthy of the title "Mom".

I think a mother and a father are the people who raise the child, not the people who just create the child and then give it up and walk away.

I have major respect for anyone who chooses adoption. Most of the time it's because they want their child to have a better or life. I feel like the north mom should just be that though. He mother who actually raises the child is the real mother. I'm sure the birth mom would understand that.

Any woman that feels the nurturing desire for a living being can call herself a mom.

Even if they didn't give birth vaginally or if meds were used during labor. Even if they didn't carry the fetus at all or don't even have the organs necessary to do so. Even if the subject of nurturing isn't even in the same genus...

Motherhood/fatherhood is a state of mind, a feeling, a facet of love. Not a title you have to win or have a piece of paper to prove.

One is your biological mother. The other is your Mom. Obviously the woman who raised and adopted you would be your mother. Birthing you doesn't make her less of your mom.

I was adopted. And I'm forever grateful to my mother for doing this. If you don't have experience with adoption I wouldn't even comment. My parents (adopted) are the best thing to happen to me and I'm glad I got that connection with my bio mom cuz she's more of my friend then anything else. I had the best brothers and sisters, best loving parents, and the greatest outdoor adventures on our farm house all because my bio mom made a decision for me not to live in the crazy world she was living in. I'm lucky to have 2 moms.

We have 4 kids, 2 bio and 2 recently adopted. I mom to ALL of them, our family got bigger about 3mn ago or so and from day 1 i was referred to as mom. My sperms donor(aka bio 'father') was never there and when he did randomly show up it was drama, he is no way shape or form in my Father/dad. My stepfather, is the one who raised me, loved me, cared for me, he was my protector...therefore he is my dad. Id say depending on the situation it takes more than conceiving/birthing to make someone a mother/father.

Hell no. Just because I came out of you doesn't mean you're my mother. My adoptive parents, which I call my parents because that's I'll I've ever known, are my mom and dad.

I consider a "mother" to be the person who carried you and gave birth to you. Then a "mom" or a "mama" is someone who raised you.
Women who carry a pregnancy to term, give birth and then give the child to another woman who is better able to care for the child are INCREDIBLY strong women. They should not be discounted or cast away, they did the best thing they could for their child which is basically all a mother is anyway- someone who puts the needs of a child before their own.

I think no situation is black or white. There's always that area that isn't clear. We don't know the circumstances of why she gave her child away. It may have been the best decision for that child. We live in a world where too often we cast stones not know the reason behind ppl stories. They are woman who careless just give their child up for adoption but for a large amount of those women it's the HARDEST desicion they will make. So yes they should still be considered a mother because a mothers job is to always make the decision that protect and better their child.
