Help!

So i want to start doing photography but i dont have enough money to buy a nice camera. I asked my mom to help out with the camera cost but she said that i wont make as much money as i think i will and is totally discouraging me. My stepdad has a camera that he might let me use to get started but if my mom is not supporting me on this will she support me on the rest of my career journey?
