Would you automatically assume that a man wearing a full face of makeup is gay?

Would you automatically assume a man wearing a full face of makeup is automatically gay?  I don't want to ask him right now and it turns out he's straight...I'm talking about lipstick, foundation, eye makeup, consealer, the whole nine yards. More makeup then me, actually. I don't mind if he's bisexual and it's his thing but clearly I can't date a gay man.

Could be drag. Could be theatrical. Most literally "gays" don't wear makeup.

I wouldn't assume anything. I know straight men at our school who wears makeup for theater arts. Also like you said, it might be his thing! Or he also might be a straight/bisexual crossdresser. So much things to consider.

Just chat with him and see what kind of vibe you get! If he is gay you were just being friendly! If he's straight then you can ask him out

I've known plenty of guys who wore makeup who weren't gay:
They did theater. 
They were scene/goth
They did drag
They just felt pretty in it. 
They did cross dressing for fun.

Just because they wore makeup doesn't make them gay. They may be more effininate. But not necessarily gay.

I'm not saying he is or that I would make any assumptions but I've never seen a straight man wear even a drop of makeup. Except for movie stars I guess.

Yes only because makeup is still a very feminine thing and I personally don't know any straight men that would wear a full face of makeup. All the male makeup wearers and make up artists that I follow on instagram are gay men. I know not all crossdressers are gay but I just don't know any straight men who would wear makeup. Except maybe eyeliner.
