When to involve HR

Question

Currently 33 wks and I have started swelling from my feet and ankles. Part of my job duties as a supervisor is to go in "route rides" but since I am pregnant I can follow the driver around instead of getting in and out of a delivery truck. Now my only issue is the weather (south Texas) and the uncomfortability doing this task. My legs hurt at the end of a regular work day. I can't imagine following these drivers and being out in the hot sun. I don't want to end up having early labor. What should I do? Call HR?

We had mandatory over time two weeks ago. I asked for restrictions from my doctor and she had no problem putting me on them. She put me on 40 hour weeks and no heavy lifting or pushing/pulling. I just told her what I would be doing and that I was concerned.

OR...ask your boss if you could take it easy? Let them know how you're feeling and that you know your body and wanted to discuss other options before taking it any further. See if they will cut you some slack. Worked for me at my job. I love my job and plan to come back in full force after my leave, I didn't want to do anything to jeopardize the trust or relationship with my superiors

Let your doctor know directly what your daily work duties include and get them to write the restrictions and hand if over to HR

You need to talk to your dr. To either take you out of work earlier than the legal 36 weeks or modify your work duties. HR needs directions from your doctor not the other way around.
