MIL calls herself mama and your baby her baby?!

Ugh anyone else dealing with their mother in law calling herself mama and introducing YOUR baby as "her" baby?? I'm trying SO stinking hard not to let it get to me but it's been done so many times now I'm about at my breaking point 🙈 should I say something or should I just keep playing it cool? I'm about to lose it.

My MIL does the same thing. It drives me nuts because we don't have a great relationship on top of everything else. Hubby thinks I'm overreacting. Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way....

I'd be mad and every time she says mama i would correct her by saying grandma. And if that didn't get the point across I'd tell her she's got her own child and he can call her mama.

I would think it was weird my mil calling herself mama to my baby however I wouldn't find it strange her calling my baby her baby. My mum and grandma do it - they love them so much and they are a part of them. I look it as just more people to shower them with love and kindness. Plus if she said it to people they'd know the baby isn't exactly hers but yours. But ultimately they are family so they are partly theirs... xxxxx

Girl, I'm the same way as you on being non confrontational but these things we gotta stand up to. Stand your ground. Or they'll keep pushing you over. They get upset. Oh well, your feelings matter too.

If she is introducing your baby to people as her baby I would correct her right in front of the people.  Maybe some embarrassment will smack some sense into her!

My MIL will comment on fb posts and say ooo I love my baby or grammy misses her baby. She does it to my sister in law as well. It doesn't bother me bc it's not in a way where she's saying it's her baby. But I also have a good relationship with her so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. 
    But if she ever introduced her as her baby I'd immediately correct it.

My ex MIL does this with my oldest. At her preschool graduation she came in and said "our baby's graduating!!!"  Um, no, MY baby is graduating. I almost lost it, it drives me nuts!!  I don't think you're overreacting, and I don't understand why people act this way.  If I ever do I hope my daughter in law hits me! Or at least an evil eye haha

Yes! My MIL started it with my dogs and has continued it with my daughter.  I have had my husband talk to her because I would say the wrong thing.  My MIL is very emotional and sensitive with being told she can't do things and I'm blunt and will tell her no too fast.  I just very recently had to tell her that she couldn't come back out to our house until Christmas because I and the baby meexed6 a break from all the visitors.  I haven't even begun to fathom how I'm going to tell her that when we come to her house, we can't stay there because of her heavy smoking.

I feel ya girl.  I would sit down and talk with your SO and see what they saw as to how to handle it.  But if they don't do something then I would sit down with your MIL and explain to her that she didn't push the baby out her hoohaw and therefore it is not her baby and she is not the momma.  Or use nicer words lol :) but good luck

Girl, my freaking MOTHER does this to us. Pisses me OFF. Thankfully, my baby girl and I reunited with my husband 3 weeks after her birth, so my mother can't bother us too much now ( we live a state away from my family). But she likes to share pictures of our baby whenever I post them on FB and caption the pics, "My baby 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️". Like Felicia, pleeeease. My mother tied her tubes after my birth. That was her own choice. Everyone tried to discourage her from doing that but noo. I'm the only child. Now she wants to act like my baby is hers? Psssh. Funny thing is she'll ONLY share the photos of my baby. Not the ones of me AND baby.  You not the only one. Funny thing is she won't do it around my husband.
