Finger foods?

My dd just turned 7 months old and I keep seeing other moms on my Facebook giving their younger babies Cheerios and puffs. I didn't ask my doctor about Cheerios but I asked for finger foods and he said 9 months and on the containers for the puffs it says for crawlers. She is almost crawling and has excellent use of her pointer and thumb together. At what age can you give Cheerios? I'm so afraid she will choke.
