Bringing older children when delivering?

Hi all!

Someone asked me recently who was watching my son when I go into labor for this one... It hadnt really crossed my mind since I was there when my sister was born. What's everyone else doing? Would it be weird for hom to be there? He's 5... Just curious!

Noooooo! I'm sure that 9 times out of 10 or more it is totally fine, but it can also go so unbelievably wrong that I would never even consider it. There's always a possibility you could wind up with complications and having kids exposed to that much blood and gore coming from you or the baby is flat out traumatizing. And if the med team is in a rush to save your life it is going to be hard to clear them from the room without seeing anything disturbing and scary. I would probably keep them in the waiting room with a non support person until after things have settled down but that's just my preference because I am a worst case scenario kind of girl. ;)

My 13 yr old son will be there for as much as he wants to see. I have no problem with him being there and we are a pretty open family. My hubby is also away for the 9 days before I'm due so my son will be my buddy till someone else arrives if I go early.

My step son is 8 and has been extremely needy thr last couple months. At one point i wanted him to be there, but now in very against it. I dont want to stress or have my husband be constantly telling him to behave. He gets a bad attitude whrn he isnt getting attention or his way. He is going to be with his mom for the whole month of July so im kinda hoping baby comes a little early, we are due August 3rd. We already told him wether you meet your brother at the hospital or at home its all going to be the same. You will have a brother if your there or not.

My hospital doesn't have an age limit on who can be in the delivery room they feel that even kids have different maturity levels and some can handle it, and my 7 yr old wants to be there, we've been watching pregnancy shows so she can be prepared and talking about it.  She has her heart set on it, they do only allow three support persons in the room which will be my husband, my daughter and his godmother so if my daughter does get antsy she has someone there who can attend to her.  It's a personal decision for everyone and if the hospital is ok with it then go for it.

I have. 8,9 and 10 year old that will be staying with family I can't imagine my kids would stay entertained (and out of trouble) for The labor

I have home births so my kids, sisters and hubby are out in the living room while my midwife and mom are in my room with me. All my kids are young, 7-1 years old so to me they are young for it.

My daughter was born after an 1.5hr labor so my 5 year old son and daughter will be home since I'm Hoping my labor is just as quick this time. Labor started at 1030pm and we where home in bed by 230 am so with any luck kids won't even notice we where gone (they will be taken care by gramma)

I have a 12 year old and 2 1/2 yr old and I'm thinking of allowing my oldest to sit in if I can deliver vaginally fingers crossed and hopefully she will be able to experience the joy that I feel when I had them.

My son is only 3 years old and I think if I let him in the room it would scar him. He's staying with my parents while I'm in labor and more then likely he'll be with my dad, when I have his brother,  out in waiting room. My hospital only allows 3 people in the room other then me at all times. It cuts back on drama and stress on mom. I'll probably have my husband my mother and my best friend in the room. I would have my mother in law but they live 5 hours away and I don't know if they will make it here in time or not!

My daughter is 2 so I don't think she would sit in a delivery room till her brother is born. And honestly it would be less stress. So I think one of her grand parents will be watching her
