Much heavier, painful periods after mc

I lost my baby at 13 weeks and had to have a dnc at the end of February, nearly four months ago. It took me almost two months to get a period again, and they have been so so much heavier and so much more painful. And irregular. I have never had this much pain or flow for so many days in a row. And I'm just exhausted and have migraines too. Is it normal for this to go on months after mc? Is it the new way for me or will things go back to normal? Should I get checked out?
