Stay at home? Go back to work?

Question

I am really struggling with the decision to go back to work or stay at home with my son after maternity leave. How did you decide? What are the benefits of both of the options?

I'd rather raise my own kid than pay someone the majority of my personal income to experience all of those special moments for me. If your income is high enough that you'd make a really good amount even after paying for child care, and you need the money, then working might be the better option for you. I just can't imagine having missed out on all of the day to day changes of the first two to three years.

I do both. I work from home 2 days a week and go into the office for half days the other 3. My oldest goes to preschool on those days and I take my 2 month old into the office with me

It's personally up to you! If you are blessed enough to stay home the first year why not :) it's the most important! Being a full time mom is harder then a job in my opinion, but not everyone is blessed to be able to stay home, plus u can rarely trust anyone now a days:/

I was dealing with the same issue. Ultimately I will be home til the end of the year with my little guy. His sister will go to preschool in September (she went this past school year and loved it). I'm sure it'll be a little tough financially when she goes back but I won't have the huge expense of both of them in child care if I went back to work full time.

Took 3 months off to be with the little one, then went back to work half time. I'm also studying for a professional licensing exam one day a week. I absolutely love my baby girl and know she is a gift from God. However, I also know that God gifted me with the skills and abilities of an engineer, which I also love. My husband is an engineer, too, so we don't need the money, but I work because I love it, which doesn't mean I love my baby any less.

I was set in returning back to work after baby was born. I've always been very active and love being out and about exploring. About a month after having my daughter all that changed. I just want to be with her, especially during the first year, so now I'm looking into different financial avenues to be able to stay at home at least for a year...
