Flying with a newborn.

I'm due Novemeber 19th with my first. My bf wants us to fly out to Rhode Island from Colorado for Christmas so that baby could meet his family. My mom told me only do what I'm comfortable with. I just wanted someone with experience in this to help me out! A one month old on a 4 hour flight. Is it practical??  That's if baby comes on time. It's a while away but buying tickets sooner than later saves some loot.
