Is 3D ultrasound worth it?

We have our gender scan ultrasound scheduled with my regular OB for 20 weeks (which is 4 weeks away) they will also be doing blood work and checkups for any abnormalities with the baby at this appointment but I found a place that can tell gender at 15 weeks with 3D ultrasound so I made an appointment with them but they charge $80 minimum for the scan which you get a DVD of the entire ultrasound as well. So now I only have to wait another week to find out the gender but what do I do with my regular scheduled anatomy scan? Keep it? Because they will be doing blood work also at that scan but will this be overkill? I also feel a bit weird walking into my anatomy scan already knowing what the baby is lol

Please keep your anatomy scan. This scan is very important. I don't mean to scare you in any way, but we found out our son had major heart defects during this scan. They do this one for a reason, it's to check all bodily functions, growth and many other elements. I was 21 at the time, no risk factors, no genetic factors on mine or my husband's side. I had to be monitored weekly because my son could have gone into heart failure at any time. Revealing the gender is a perk, not a necessity, however the health and safety of your baby is.

The anatomy scan is NOT primarily to find out the gender. They check organs and development of your baby, things this 3rd party location will not do. Absolutely keep the appointment.

Yes girl!! Keep the 20 week anatomy scan!! That's a very important ultrasound checking everything on the baby! Gender is really not important at all in this scan! They just make sure it's normal appearing.

Definitely keep the anatomy scan. They determine many things besides the sex of your baby and an ultrasound tech is not a replacement for your doctor. That being said, it was totally worth the extra money for the gender scan for me. I think the best part was whenever I go to the doctor I feel like I wait around and then see the doctor for 2.5 seconds and then I'm on my way home. I get it. Doctors are busy and I'm and uncomplicated pregnancy. But, during the gender scan I got to sit an watch my baby move and play for a good 15 minutes. The ultrasound tech was very thorough and spent a lot of time showing us body parts and telling us that they looked normal to her. Saying he had big feet for his gestational age, etc. It was a wonderful experience. My husband is the biggest cheap-o I know and even he said it was worth it.

We wanted to know gender early or we would have had to waited until 21 weeks. We did the 3D scan that you mention at 16 weeks and it was totally worth it. Huge projection screen showed baby on wall. We got to see a few HD live moments too. Then we went to our anatomy scan at 21 weeks.

Yes keep it for sure. The anatomy scan isn't really for the gender as the most important thing. They're gonna be measuring the baby and checking for correct developments, for medical reasons so definately keep it. They won't care that u already know the gender, plus it will be nice for that double check to make sure.

I had an ultrasound At 15 weeks to see the gender. It's worth it. Bc of my partner scheduled we hasn't sure if he was able to make to the 20 week ultrasound and we both wanted to be there for the reveal. Now, I just had a 2D ultrasound. And the tech did show us a few images in 3D. Let me tell you my baby looked like an alien in 3D. To me if you just trying to get a better view of the baby wait a bit longer to have a 3D. If you want a gender reveal a 2D will do.
