How long did you swaddle your baby?

This is my first baby, and I've loved the idea of swaddling every since I came across it. The other night though I was reading a baby book, and the chapter on swaddling recommended not swaddling after the first month since it can hinder development. I was under the impression that you could swaddle for quite a while, like I feel like most of the swaddled babies I see on the internet look older than a month. I'm going to bring it up with the doctor, but on average how long did you ladies swaddle your babies?
