Would you date someone that hates your kids?

I ask this because my husband's mom has always dated men that cannot stand him. Even when he was younger she dated men that hated him. When he told her that he thought she made a good choice with a man, she would tell him that she didn't want that kind of relationship and go back to the drunk guy who abused my husband.

So my question is: no matter how old your child is, would you date a person who didn't even want you talking to your own child?

If you are with someone that hates and abuses your kids you are just as guilty when it comes to the abuse. You don't need to be with that person. It's absurd, there are millions of people in this world I'm sure you can find one you like that also likes your kids. My husband went through his step father abusing him and it did a lot of damage to him so this kind of crap pisses me off.

Yes. When my children are both adults living on their own and I meet a guy that makes me happy then I'll be with him even if he doesn't like my children. But if the guy doesn't want me seeing my children, doesn't want them visiting, doesn't want me talking to them or causes them problems then no I wont be with him. But as long as he shows them respect then I see no problem dating someone when they are older. But I'm hoping it doesn't come that because that would mean I'd no longer be with my children's father and I hope we stay a happy family .

Just because they abused him doesn't mean they hate children in general.

I had a horrid relationship with both my step parents, but I'm completely ok with that because the truth is I didn't need to love them or pretend to be friends. All we had to do was tolerate each other until I could move out. So if I were dating again l wouldn't expect anyone to just fall in love with my child because we're involved, that's not how love works. I would just shoot for tolerance and respect. Though your MIL seems a little off putting if this is all true.

I of course would since I don't like children either. I don't abuse kids, the just don't have the patience so it would work since I don't want children later in life
