Is it ok for your boyfriend to tell you what not to wear?

I wanted to wear a crop top today and he wouldn't let me. I have so many new clothes that are crop tops that I haven't worn because of him.  Is this ok? What do I do?

I guess it depends, there are some things that my boyfriend doesn't like me wearing without him around because he doesn't want me attracting attention when he's not there.  It's a bit of a jealousy thing, I know I could wear it if I really want to but he requests that I don't. I understand why he wouldn't want me out and about in super revealing clothes so I respect his wishes. I feel like it's ok as long as it's not ridiculously controlling.

Never. It's never okay. You choose what you wear no matter what. You can wear revealing clothes. Hell, you can wear nothing. It's your life and your choice.

Well it depends. My boyfriend does not like me wearing short shorts and crop tops. He respectfully told me that I look great he just doesn't want everyone else looking, but it was my choice. He didn't guilt me or make me do anything, I avoid wearing stuff like that if it makes him more comfortable. 
If your so is just saying you can't do that. And doesn't give you a choice, then it isn't okay.

So my boyfriend of 8 months, is the best don't get me wrong. However, there have been a few times where he's told me that he prefers a modest outfit. And I really don't mind because the only reason I would be dressing sexy is for him anyway. But that does not mean that I never wear short shorts, or a dress around him. I like to say that it's the occasion, when with his family I do not dress provocatively because it's not appropriate and I knew that before I met him. 
To an extent his comments should be appreciated and heard, on the other hand if he is controlling you for who you are, or how you want to dress that is a different thing. He should state preferences, not rules.
