Are you protected the first day of your pill pack?

I've been on birth control pills (combined pill) for 4 years and I've never really understood this but am I protected the first day I take the pill of my new pill pack or do I have to wait 7 days to be protected every time?

Answer

Just the first time you start taking them you have to wait at least 7 days to be protected. After that, you are protected all the time, even on your 7 days break. You don't have to wait 7 days anymore.
