Induction due to age? I'm only 37 years old!

I'll be 37 weeks in a couple of days, and I'm 37 years old.  This is my first pregnancy.  My cervix is high and completely closed now.  My doctor just scheduled weekly ultrasounds and mentioned scheduling an induction if the baby hasn't come by 39 weeks because of my age.  Was anyone else here induced because of age?

That seems fishy. Why do you HAVE to be induced if your baby doesn't come a week early? That's insane. If get a second opinion. Are there any other Dr's in that practice? I wouldn't induce at 39 weeks. No way.

At my appointment yesterday, the doctor and I chatted about her concerns more.  Part of the reason my age makes her a bit nervous is because I have a Marginal Cord Insertion and the placenta could just stop working late in pregnancy.  She wants to avoid an emergency c-section at all costs.

She also is a bit concerned about my tiny pelvis.  The bigger the baby, the harder it will be to get her out.  If I go to 40+ weeks it will be a higher chance of c-section.  She will wait up until a few days before my due date before starting the induction, so baby has as much time as possible in there, but she won't let me go over. I trust her.

Now to see what I can do to encourage baby girl to come on her own!

I would not agree to be induced. It causes much stronger contractions with more risk of other complications. 37 is not old and 36 weeks is just now to term. I would be a bit more understanding if you were 41/42 weeks along. They can scrape the membranes at like 40 weeks. Do your research and do what you're comfortable with.

As long as you're educated, trust your body & your doctor, then go with what feels right. I'll be induced at 39 weeks & it's very important (to me) that I am induced early. My 1st birth resulted in major complications, shoulder dystocia for baby while my body went into shock etc. 2nd baby was induced with perfect & short labor/delivery and very healthy 6 lb 7 oz baby. It literally puts me into panic mode thinking about risking everything to go the extra week.

I am 35 and pregnant. I honestly do not know what your age would have to do with it. Does your dr think your body is going to fall apart if they wait until your due date. That does not make sense. Are you having other problems

I talked to a nurse about this today at my appointment.  I'm 37 (turning 38 in a few weeks).  She told me they do not suggest induction until 41 weeks.

I'm only 13 weeks along, but my preference is to have the least amount of medical interventions as possible, so this was one of my concerns.  I've heard other women say they felt pushed to induce when they weren't ready.  So I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be pushed to induce unless medically necessary. And she said they don't don't until 41 weeks since that's when the placenta starts "aging".

What does your age have to do with it? So weird. I understand weekly check ups and all that but if you are not past due why induce due to the age.... I am 36 and my doc is not pushing that at all

I'm 37 years old and pregnant with my second and my doctors haven't suggestes that at all. On the contrary, they have been very open about waiting for this baby to come. 40weeks-3 days. Don't let them decide for you. Do what feels right for you and your baby. Good luck!
