Pumping at School

H
Hello! I was wondering if mom's out there who are teachers could give me info on pumping at school. Will pumping twice (lunch/plan) be enough to keep up my supply? Did you just pump in your classroom? Where did you keep your pumped milk? Or clean your parts? I really want to try to keep breastfeeding but I don't know how to do it at work at all honestly. I'm worried about trying to find time to pump and losing my supply by not pumping enough at school. Plus the factor of where to pump at. My supply is great right now and I have a lot frozen, but that will only last so long!!

I pump at school. I teach 8th grade. I pump in my classroom and bought a mini fridge to store milk from target for $50 and a mini microwave $45 to heat my lunch up so I can pump at lunch. I pump at 630 am and then have to make it til 1130, then pump at 1 and then pick my son up ASAP and nurse him ASAP. I teach science so I have sinks in my room. I don't clean the parts in between pumps, just put them back in the fridge for the next pump and then wash them after school and store them in the fridge for the next day. If you don't have a sink I would buy the medala pump wipes. They work well but you'll still have to wash out the bottles. I bought a hands free bra from target so I can grade and plan while pumping. after getting over the nervousness of pumping in my room, it's going well. I made a door window cover and bought a curtain for my outside door so that no one can see me and told my team and principal not to come visit at those times :) my supply has dropped a bit, but not a ton!

I pumped the entire school year last year. I just put the milk in the cooler bag that came with my medela pump. I pumped 2-3 times a day depending on how long I had to be at school that day (some days I had to do after school).

By law your employer should have available a to that is not a bathroom for you to pump. I would just go to your principal/admin and say this is what I'm doing, and ask what room is available for you to use. If pumping in your classroom is your only option, just be sure your classroom door locks and I would also make your colleagues aware (not daily, but just as a general statement that you aren't available at lunch/prep) so that you aren't disturbed. Also register for the pump steam bags so that you can clean your equipment without it being in the sink and also a cooler bag (I don't keep my lunch in the school fridge, ick).Pregnancy Podcast has some great info about this and a TON of other things!

I pumped at school until my child was 12 months. I pumped 20 minutes of my 59 minute lunch then I pumped again in my classroom during my planning time. Then I stored inside the baby cooler inside the refrigerator that was in staff lounge .... no one could see and breast milk bottle ( I know that creep some people out). When I was weaving baby I would only pump once a day at school then eventually none.

I went back at 8 weeks. Pumped on planning, lunch, and after school. I breastfed for about 15 months. I had my own mini fridge but had to pump in a closet at the opposite side of the school once a week.

I use the Freemie collection cups and pump in the room, even with my students there! You still wear your shirt, so you don't have to worry about someone "seeing" you! I pump during snack time, recess, and independent activities. I teach multiple disabled students, so I have 2 other adults in the room with me, which makes it easier. I highly recommend!!!

I teach Kindergarten! I pump at 10:10 and 2:10 while they are at recess. Sometimes I pump before school, if my son doesn't eat right away. I use a medulla double pump with a pumping bra so I can still use my hands. I bought the Medula cooler which keeps my bottles cold all day! I just bought the wipes to clean because I never can get time to clean them.

I pump in my room with the door locked. I only pump once a day because at lunch I need to eat and we eat in the lunch room with the kids. My girl is mainly formula fed so I am not trying to pump enough to keep her fed during the day. She nurses to sleep and on the weekends I have a mini fridge in my room to keep the milk. I take the parts home to be washed. I keep the pump at school.
