Birth announcements?

If you're planning on sending birth announcements out (with or without newborn photography photo) when are you going to send them? Is it appropriate to wait and send a Christmas one since our babies will be ~4 months old or is that a long time to wait?

I have them made up on photoshop already, I just need to drop the photo in! However I do plan on waiting a couple weeks where he isn't as freshly birthed looking...maybe a month at the most

Usually you get your newborn pictures done within the first 2 weeks - or at least that's what most photographers prefer because they're still in that "sleepy baby" faze.  And then after your pictures are done it might take another 2 weeks to get them back from the photographer. So I would say to send out your announcements between 2weeks and 6weeks PP.  That way the new baby will still be fresh news to your mailing list.

We were going to do Christmas/New Years cards. Maybe not like a formal birth announcement, but just to let people know in case they missed it somehow.

I'm planning to send mine out as soon as I feel ready to get out of the house with my baby. I want to have them mostly designed and have envelopes addressed before he's born so that after he's born, all I have to do is add the picture(s) to the announcement, print them, and stuff envelopes. I'm going to tell my son, "Come on, Abel. Let's go tell the world you're here," and bring him with me :) I won't be making phone calls or doing a social media announcement, so I don't want to wait too long to get them out because this is hiw everyone  (except my dad and brother) will know he is here.
