Baby items that you actually need?

Question

What are baby items that you actually need (big and small) and items you thought you needed but actually didn't? Trying to figure out what I need to buy. So far I have her crib, nursery swivel/glider chair, and car seat/stroller combo. On my to get list I have bassinet (for our room), baby swing, pack n play, dresser/changing table, ergo baby carrier, and some smaller essential items. What are items you actually used..? And items you thought you needed but ended up not using?

I thought I had absolutely everything until my shower and one thing that I received that stands out to me was baby medicines! Gas drops, gripe water, Tylenol ect. NEVER even crossed my mind!😃

I would recommend a rock n play. I couldn't get my daughter to sleep anywhere,  but with us until we got a rock n play and now she sleeps all night by herself. She also slept better when she was swaddled when she was first born, and we got a sound machine that has a projector on it (that part we just started using a little now that she can see better).

So I got a bassinet and a pack n play and realized we probably could've done without the bassinet and just had baby sleep in the pack n play. I don't mind it too much because I left the bassinet in my room and pack n play in living room for baby to nap. But just want you to know that option because I didn't even think about it.

The rock n play is so much more useful than a bassinet! I had both and it was a lifesaver. It rocks, has an incline, AND folds up when you push in two buttons (super easy). I didn't use our changing table, it was always easier to put the portable changing pad down wherever we were instead of going to the room with the changing table. Don't get a diaper stacker or organizer! I kept mine in the jumbo box along with wipes and it worked just as well but came with the diapers lol.

I didnt think i would use a breast pump but i got it anyway, my insurance covered it. Im so glad i got it cuz i ended up needing it after breastfeeding hurt WAYYY too much. Would definitely recommend getting it if your insurance covers it cuz you never know if you might need it!

Get a pack n play that has a bassinet attachment, so you can skip the bassinet. I think you got the main essentials. I always loved a good baby monitor.

Before our DD was born I swore I'd never co-sleep so we bought a crib and a bassinet...well it didn't take long to realize that co-sleeping (actually breast-sleeping) is what works best for us. We definitely could have not purchased the bassinet. The crib we bought converts to a toddler bed, so I'm hopeful we will get use out of it eventually.

Must haves: car seat/stroller (travel system), glider chair & ottoman, swaddle blankets, white noise machine (or a white noise app on your phone), the book Sweet Sleep if you are interested in co-sleeping, baby wearing carrier (I've got a Moby wrap I use around the house and a Lillebaby carrier for when we are out), quality breast pump (if you plan on breastfeeding and going back to work).

Baby wearing is so awesome...it frees up your hands to do things and keeps your angel close to you, where they want to be!

Don't go overboard with clothing, they grow so fast!

A lot of the other stuff you can buy is unnecessary, but can come in handy...I've kept my eyes open for second hand items and saved a bundle of money for our rock and play, bouncer, walker, mamaroo, and pack and play.
