I am not going to say "yes or no" on this since I don't really want to get into an argument right now, but being ftm (or mtf) is more than just wanting a flat chest, or not wanting periods. I saw a point that really made sense to me, so I'm gonna use it here. "Shouldn't prosthetic legs be covered by insurance, since you need a leg to be able to function in society" or something or other. Prosthetics can range from $5,000 to 50,000. Shouldn't A LEG be covered by insurance? It's not needed, you can use a wheel chair or crutches but to be able to do things you wouldn't be able to do (like a regular person) wou would need a prosthetic. I know this is an extreme example but it's like that. I cannot go outside without binding and being extremely uncomfortable. I'm VERY preop, I have no way to get testosterone shots, and the future is looking very bleak. I do go to therapy and I've been on numerous medications but nothing helped. Nothing is gonna help until o feel like who I am. Top surgery can cost anywhere from 35,000 to 9,000 *this may or may not include down payment which is usually 500 to 2,000 do what you want with this information and research. NO ONE except other trans* people will be able to understand what it is like. Come to your own conclusions but do not attack people because of it.

I believe the reassignment surgeries and hormones should be covered, the same way I believe dental implants should be covered. No one should have to live their life the wrong gender, especially if they can't afford to correct it.

Absolutely not. Because it is not medically necessary. As boob jobs or nose jobs purely for cosmetic reasons do not need to be covered by insurance.

My province health care covers reassignment surgeries, as well as breast reductions, and other "elective" surgeries that can be deemed as needed. Getting boob implants, nose job, butt lift, and those types of surgeries are out of pocket.

I'd be suprised if they did since it's more a selective surgery and cosmetic. I can't see it happening esp when most insurance don't pay for fertility treatments.. wouldn't be fair.
