Advice??

Question

Ok so I got my umbilical hernia fixed... Right after healing... I got pregnant... And of course now its back. And looks a Lil bigger... I'm 22 weeks. And am now thinking of a birthing plan.. Do I go all natural? I did for my 1st child no meds nothing. But I also didn't have a hernia. Is there anyone whose been in the same boat or is? I'm going to talk to my doctor. Just curious cause I also know not everything your doctor says is always correct.

I developed a small umbilical hernia about half ways through my first pregnancy. My ob was not even remotely concerned. Delivery did absolutely nothing to it, and no one wanted me to fix it until I was done with kids unless it became an issue ("strangled", etc). Other than me not like the way it looks it hasn't bothered me. 22 wks with baby #2 now and it seems mostly the same, although I'm worried about it getting worse so I've been doing pregnancy safe core exercises n hopes that that helps. My bladder has also dropped into my vaginal wall pushing into the vaginal canal (not prolapsed.. Yet anyhow...) and I was worried about that, but my doc will let me push in a sidelying position, etc to reduce chance of further damage. I was natural on #1, and will be doing natural again this time. I'd be worried that getting epidural would cause me to damage worse since I could not feel what I was doing (or worse turn me into a csection)...c section is abdominal surgery, so that would just be adding new/different trauma /damage (Albeit "controlled") to an area that already has damage. So I'm just focusing on core workouts and plan to continue to put a heavy emphasis on pelvic floor safe core exercises after l&d once cleared

I had an umbilical hernia with my 2nd daughter. It was annoying during pregnancy but didn't bother me during delivery. I did have an epidural , but wish I hadn't. I had mine repaired when baby was 5 weeks old because it got strangled (I think that's what they called it).

I had my umbilical hernia repaired last year with mesh. Got pregnant 10 months later. Mine fortunately has not returned. Surgeon said having a pregnancy should be fine. OB-GYNs all have said I should be fine but it may be sore as belly grows. My husband asks the doctors about it every appointment but they continue to say all is well. I know that some mothers get hernias during pregnancy. I had a friend get one with her twins. She had natural childbirth but also had to have hernia repaired at the same time which made baby handling difficult in those first months. I'd say ask doctors to be sure of your birth options...I think I'll double check at my next appointment too.
