Medicine when pregnant

What is the best medicine to take when ur pregnant.... I read there are a few that are only safe after ur past 12 weeks .... I have to take a preg test on the 23rd of this month to confirm but I want to be safe just in case and I got a cold /flu thing all of a sudden and I got sick like this out of the blue with my son before I found out with him so please help I'm miserable when I'm sick
