Cervical scar tissue leading to problems dilating
I'm at 40w+1d with my first child. I've been stuck at 70% effaced and 0 dilation since week 37. At my appointment today my OB informs me that she believes that it is from a build up of scar tissue from a LEEP procedure I had about 10 years ago. This is the first I've even heard of this being an issue so I'm both frustrated that she didn't mention it before and scared because I've been doing my own research and now see that it is more common than I realized. I'm now scheduled to be induced on Sunday (40w+5d) and am reading horror stories of people in similar situations that labored in the hospital for days after being induced only to end up having a C section. I've also read that my OB could have been massaging my cervix to help break up the scar tissue during her internal exams. Why was she not doing this? I'm thoroughly frustrated, anxious and scared at this point, but I know enough now to ask the nurses/doctors on Sunday to help with the scar tissue. If you've had any procedures done on your cervix previously that could result in scar tissue talk to your OB/midwife now. It may not end up being a problem for you and it may work out well for me after all, but I wish I had known all of this a month ago. Does anyone have an experience around this (good, bad or otherwise) that they can share?
