Co-sleeping safety

So, the original plan was to have a bassinet. But out here, all we could afford was a used Moses basket. It's really cute and we cleaned it well. We don't have a stand for it, but I don't want it on the floor because we live in the desert and have ants, spiders, etc. My hubby and I have two single beds pushed together to form one bed right now. It's fairly low to the floor, it's definitely sturdy, and there's never a big gap between the beds (sometimes there's a little space between mattresses after a long night of sleep, but that's it). I was wondering if it's safe enough to have her basket in the bed in between us. The basket seems like it would protect her well, but what do you all think?
