Will my puppy grow up to hate me 😕

So my BF and I just got a little puppy...we love her so much but she's a puppy so of course she's naughty...she bites and she gets into things and she doesn't listen...and I'm always the one who ends up yelling at her because my BF is too nice. And I hate yelling at her and I always feel guilt afterwards because she gets very quiet (I would never hit her) but I want her to grow up to be a good well-behaved dog. I'm worried that she'll grow up to hate me because I yell and she'll love my BF more because he doesn't yell at her 🙁

Lol she won't hate you, she'll see you as her master and love you unconditionally if you train her like it sounds like you're doing. My fiancé and I got a puppy when she was six months and when she did something bad like poop or pee on the carpet we would give her a little hit and yell at her no. Now she's six years old and she's the best dog ever! So well behaved. Everyone loves her and she loves us. If you don't want to hit your dog, that's fine, but I'm just saying we hit our dog and she still loves us haha. It's just a different form of punishment that teaches them right from wrong and shows your authority. I've never seen a dog who doesn't love their master, that's why they are mans best friend! (Btw, for anyone thinking we were abusing our dog, of course we weren't. We love animals and think they deserve to be treated like humans, and we treat her like she's our child 😅)

Look up techniques on how to discipline young dogs. Companion animals tend to seek attention. What's been found to be a very effective disciplinary technique is withdrawing attention. Simply remove them or yourself from your presence when they misbehave and give them attention when their good. Even yelling or smacking them (god forbid anyone hits their animal) is technically a way of showing them attention and it can confuse them.

She won't hate you!! Our youngest just turned a year and we got her last November. My husband is a sucker and although he has tons and tons of love to give he is not good at disciple, even if he is yelling at her he does it in a nice lovey tone.

I took on the disciplinarian role and would be the one to yell. I also took her to obedience class.  She loves us both the same. She's just a way better listener when I ask her to do things. She loves snuggling with me and since she's grown so much the yelling and discipline stuff really is much less frequent. We have a great relationship. Dogs need rules.

One of the best ways to discipline a puppy is to remove what they want (attention) when they misbehave. So if you're petting her and she bites you, Yelp as if you're hurt (so she knows it hurts you) and pull your hand away. Don't pet her for a few seconds (they have short attention spans and memories). Then go back to petting her. Eventually she will learn that biting means no fun, and not biting means pets and fun and play. Worked for me with a very mouthy Great Dane.

As long as you are also showing affection/attention when she is good, then you'll be fine. I am usually the only one who yells at my puppy, but as he gets older he is actually more affectionate with me then with my husband. Dogs typically only have one master, and since you are the one training her, it's you she'll see as her master, and generally she will be drawn to you more and be more affectionate with you.
