Ovulation?

I know very little about this topic so wanting to ask ... When in the month do you ovulate? Is it before or after your period? And if you're on the pill, this is supposed to stop you from ovulating right ?

Birth control medication is a combination of the female hormone estrogen and progesterone, but it is available in other forms. Progesterone is the main hormone that is released by the body naturally to maintain a pregnancy. The reason why the birth control pill prevents pregnancy is because it "tricks" the body into thinking it already is pregnant. This is why a lot of women have symptoms like weight gain, acne, hair growth, etc. while taking the medication. It prevents another egg from being released during the normal cycle, but once the month is over, the body tries to normalize by shedding the lining of the uterus and menstruating. It is not a "real" period per se, but how the body reacts to the hormone no longer being present. This is why you can "force" a period by stopping he medication early, as the hormone starts to dissipate after the day, and the reason why you need to take it every day in order for it to be effective.

Ovulation occurs in the middle of your cycle. Your cycle starts at day 0 on the first day of your period and most women have approximately 2 weeks from that day to when they ovulate. If you have a regular cycle, it will be approximately another 2 weeks until your next period. This is why the average cycle is usually 30 days, with a few days either way. Some women ovulate very sop after their period, or they may not ovulate until much later in the cycle. This is why it can be harder for women to know when they are fertile, because they may not be able to tell when they ovulate. Testing for the presence of hormones can determine when you ovulate so that you can maximize your chances of getting pregnant or know when to avoid having sex if you do not want to conceive.
