Baby Cereal?

My little guy is 14 weeks. Our Pediatrician recommended starting cereal around this time (and I agree because our little guy is constantly hungry) but we've tried it a couple of times and my love HATES it. I'm not sure if it's just the texture or the taste, but he throws a fit any time I put it in his mouth. His pediatrician also recommended starting baby food around 4 months. Would this be too early to go ahead and start? Has anyone else had this issue? What did you do?

Why not give more milk to feed the hunger? Their digestive systems aren't well developed until after 6 months to handle food and rice cereal has no nutritional value.

While I personally believe rice cereal is void of nutrients and a waste of time, maybe it's the kind you're using. It's really simple to make your own, and so maybe your baby would prefer basmati rice to brown rice. Just a thought.

Also, as far as food goes, just remember that they should start by only having a taste and it in no way replaces any milk or formula. If he seems to want to eat solids, I'd start with avocado. It's high in fat, relatively neutral in flavor and super easy to mush up yourself. A small amount with a little water to make it soupy, and you should be good to go.

First three solids they can digest easily are avocado, banana and sweet potato.

My 13 week old has rice cereal around dinner time since he's always hungry and he takes it perfectly. Has no problem swallowing and even accepts the spoon and opens his mouth before I get to it. I feel as though those are signs that he is okay to be eating it.

Babies can start food at 4 month depending on how your baby has developed..you can google the signs if your baby is ready.

Try putting it in his milk (if he's bottle fed) and i know a lot of baby's that hate it including mine. I starting giving him sweet potatoes and bananas at 14 weeks and he loves it! Hasn't got the spoon thing done yet though lol! 
I've also read that you shouldn't give them grains until they're six months because it causes gluten issues. But who knows!!

I'm against it. I mean if you want to start at 6 months but unless it's medically required, it has no value. If your baby is hungry a lot, it needs whatever your milk (or formula) supplies. Cereal is just filler. Part of being a baby is being hungry a lot.

Have you tried a feeder bottle instead of a spoon. At our baby's age they have a hard time with the open mouth insert spoon thing but they have sucking down to an art. A bottle feeder is an amazing tool when it comes to cerials and even baby foods. Both my older boys ate cerial at 3 months, because they were little piggies, and the feeder worked wonders. They were able to lay down and relaxe instead of being all worked up over figuring out how to work the spoon in mouth thing. Which made bed time a lot less stressful. I'm getting on target.com and ordering my feeder in the next few months.
