I walked into my 39 week (& 3 days) appointment thinking my baby would be late, not coming anytime soon, that I wasn't dilated & I was okay to go to Atlantic City the following day for some gambling with my mom. Well, I was wrong. On more than one count. My BP was 160/100 (the first time elevated during my pregnancy). I was asymptomatic but they sent me over to the hospital for monitoring anyways. Thought I'd be in & out. 3 hours later, BP is still sky high & am told I am going to be induced! I hadn't even told the hubs to come to the hospital yet! Wasn't dilated AT ALL, so over the next 36 hours I had a Cervidil implant (brought on awful back labor) that only dilated me to 3cm. The. Had a dose of Cytotec. Brought me to 5-6cm in which Pitocin was started. Terrible back labor worsened. Got my epidural at 6cm, (3 attempts at placement, eventually broke my water while sitting up waiting for the anesthesiologist to finish & peed ALL over). BP then immediately dropped, resulting in fetal distress. Had to have a dose of Ephedrine, lay on my left side (again in HORRIFIC back labor)... Epidural helped somewhat & I sleep from 5AM-7AM; wake up to OB checking my cervix, telling me at 7AM "I thought you'd be at an 8 but you're 9 1/2... Almost time to push!" Two hours later, I "practice" push with the midwife, who tells me it's GO TIME, & after 50 minutes of pushing, Charlie Belle is born at 10:35AM two days of labor later.
